Let’s talk! Facing up to the global food challenge – Everybody has the right to safe, high quality food

Join Food Nations Global Food Talk on June 7, 1.00-2.00 pm CEST on World Food Safety Day with Denmarks Minister of Food, Agriculture and Fisheries, Rasmus Prehn and leading high-level profiles from the Danish and international agriculture and food scene.

Food safety saves lives. It is not only crucial to food security but also plays a vital role in reducing foodborne diseases. Numbers from World Health Organization estimate that 600 million people fall sick of food-borne illnesses every year which also causes 420.000 preventable deaths every year.

Food safety and quality have a huge impact on many of the global challenges we need to solve whether it is food-related illnesses, security of food supply or sustainable production. Our global food systems need to produce enough safe food for all. Recognising the systemic connections between the health of people, animals, plants, the environment and the economy will help us meet the needs of the future and are essential to reach the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals.

The key question to which we are seeking answer is: How do we ensure healthy and safe food for the entire world’s population with limited resources?

Program

1.00 pm CEST: Welcome, Lise Walbom, CEO, Food Nation

  • Denmark’s ambitions to ensure healthy and safe food to the global population
Minister of Food, Agriculture and Fisheries, Rasmus Prehn

Why join?

Join the event at Food Nations Global Food Talk to gain knowledge on game-changing solutions, scalable actions and partnership models for sustainable development, be inspired by international stakeholders focusing on how to ensure global food security and become motivated to take action towards sustainable development.

Global Food Talk is a part of World Food Safety Day 2021

The UN General Assembly proclaimed in 2018 that every year June 7 would be “World Food Safety Day”. It is thus an annual event that aims to raise awareness and inspire to help prevent, detect and manage foodborne risks, contributing to food security, human health, economic prosperity, market access and sustainable development.

Let’s talk! Steering the green transition in farming and food – Innovative technology as a key driver

Join Food Nation’s first Global Food Talk “Steering the green transformation in farming and food – Innovative technology as a key driver” on May 25, 1.00-2.00 pm CEST with opening speech from Food Nations patron, His Royal Highness, Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark livestreamed from Food Nations Visitor Centre.

In less than ten years, 10 billion people will demand safe, healthy and nutritious food. With scarce resources providing enough food to feed the growing world population is one of the biggest challenges of the 21st century. According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), food production accounts for 24% of the world’s CO2 emissions. The agriculture and food industry, therefore, has to work closely together to find solutions to reach this future – and at the same time reach the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals.

New technology and innovative solutions are some of the motors that can drive the green transition. Today it is possible to find examples of technological ingenuity that reduce water and energy consumption, cut carbon emissions and maximize raw material utilisation. Also, digital technology can be the next frontier for sustainable food production like robots, predictive maintenance for smarts food processes and GPS and drone technology for crop management.

The key question to which we are seeking answers is therefore:
How can innovative technology and solutions contribute to ensuring sustainable agriculture and food production?

Circular City Week: Reducing food loss and waste – a business no-brainer

Join Food Nation’s Circular City Week webinar and learn more about the Danish app ‘Too Good To Go’s journey into the American market.

About this Event

When food is lost or wasted, it’s not only the end product that is wasted, but also all the resources that went into producing the food. Globally, one third of all food is lost or wasted. This equals 1.6 billion tons of food and a worth of approximately $1.2 trillion according to a Boston Consulting Group report from 2018.

63.3 million meals saved

Reducing food loss and waste is therefore not only a necessary step towards sustainable development, but also a good business model. Since the Danish start-up company Too Good To Go launched its app in 2016, 63.3 million meals from 76,595 cafes, restaurants, supermarkets, bakeries, hotels and more has already been saved by more than 33.3 million users all over the world.

Too Good To Go entering the American market

Food Nation invites you to join our talk where you will hear about Too Good To Go’s food waste mission entering the American market in November 2020 and the future plans for their expansion and how they every day are working towards a planet with no food waste.

Digital Export Delegation to Egypt Within the Food Sector

Create relations to retailers and importers in Egypt: An emerging market with more than 100 million inhabitants and a large, growing middle class. With this digital export delegation the Confederation of Danish Industry in cooperation with the Trade Council of Denmark in Egypt and the Royal Danish Embassy in Cairo invites you to meet large Egyptian retailers.

Egypt has a population of nearly 100 million inhabitants, which makes it the largest population in the Middle East and North Africa with an increase in young inhabitants, a rising middle class, and a growing economy with a developing retail business in terms of large supermarket chains. That makes Egypt an interesting, emerging market for Danish companies in the food sector.

Meet some of the biggest retailers and importers to the Egyptian market

The Egyptian retail market is controlled by a number of importers as well as a couple of supermarket chains. By participating in this digital meeting, you will meet retailers and an importer that are covering most of the Egyptian retail and HORECA market:

  • HyperOne (6 mio. customers in 2019)
  • HORECA STAR (importer)
  • Lulu Supermarket (investing 500 million USD in Egypt the coming years)
Why join?

You should join if you seek to build relations with some of the largest retailers in Egypt and to be a part of an aggregate effort to promote Danish products within food & beverages in Egypt. Moreover, you should join if you want to present individually for the Egyptian participants and follow up on the meetings with a real export delegation in 2021 or individual assistance if demanded.

The program will consist of:

  • General introduction to the Egyptian retailers
  • General introduction to the Danish food sector
  • Individual company presentations for the Egyptian participants
The consumer market – maturity and future trends

Egypt has the largest consumer market in the Middle East and North Africa region. Its expanding consumer market makes it a sizable market for retailers and fast-moving consumer goods manufacturers. Hypermarkets have proven to be successful in Egypt. Hypermarkets aim to meet consumer needs at a competitive price. This made them appeal more to consumers who sought greater value for money during times of high inflation in the country. The Egyptian government is also expected to facilitate foreign investment in hypermarkets, including easier access to land.In short, participate in this virtual delegation if you want to explore the Egyptian food and beverage sector as the organizers attempt to set up the digital framework for the companies to boost their exports.

Online Meetings with Top Mexican Producers & Key Exporters

The Confederation of Danish Industry, the Danish Agriculture & Food Council, EKF Denmark’s Export Credit Agency and the Danish Embassy in Mexico invite you to join two free of charge high-level roundtables with two world leading Mexican pig producers organised with a special COVID-19 subsidy from the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The virtual delegation focuses on the pig production value chain and the Mexican market leading companies, which are characterised by having activities both within primary production and processing. The activities include two online round tables and exclusive B2B meetings with pre-selected high-profile companies within the Mexican pig production and processing industry.

Why join?

Mexico is an important producer within the food and agro business, not least when it comes to pig production. The big Mexican pig producers have 80-100,000 sows, and their fast-growing production is fully integrated to include both farms and slaughterhouses. The big pig producers invest heavily in new solutions and technologies to meet the rising demand from their home- and export markets and some of the companies are planning to scale-up the production with additional 10,000 sows a year. The objective of this virtual concept is therefore to match Danish companies delivering new solutions and technology with some of the biggest Mexican pig producers. This is a unique business and export opportunity for an important industry in Denmark, not least for the many small and medium sized companies, since this virtual concept brings an exclusive but easy opportunity to open doors to a completely new and important market for several Danish companies.

There will be one online meeting October 20th and one online meeting October 21st both starting at 15 pm (GMT+1).

The export catalogue

In order to arrange the B2B meetings at the most relevant level you will need to fill in a company profile. The exporters’ catalogue will work as your selling platform and the Mexican companies will use it to select the Danish companies they want to meet and decide if they are interested in an online B2B session. Danish companies could be operating within: solutions to primary pig production, breeding and genetics, agri-industry, feed, stables, ventilation, food processing technology, bio security, cooling/cold chain, storage, quality control and ingredients.

Additional online matchmaking activities with the Mexican companies (exclusive 1-1 B2B meetings) are organised for a small fee.
