World’s Best Chef Rasmus Munk Named WFP Goodwill Ambassador

Danish chef Rasmus Munk has been appointed the United Nations World Food Programme’s (WFP) first Goodwill Ambassador from the Nordic countries. The chef behind Copenhagen’s Alchemist restaurant will use his international culinary network to raise awareness of hunger and mobilise support for WFP.

The need is urgent. According to WFP’s mid-year 2026 outlook, 266 million people across food-crisis countries face acute hunger. WFP provides food and assistance to almost 100 million people in 123 countries worldwide. Each day, 5.600 trucks, 30 ships and nearly 100 planes are on the move, delivering support to those who need it most.

From Copenhagen’s Alchemist to the fight against hunger

Named the World’s Best Chef in 2024 and 2025, Munk combines gastronomy, art and storytelling at Alchemist to encourage reflection on societal issues. Since opening in 2019, Alchemist has been fully booked every day, with more than one million guests having joined its waiting list in total.

In 2023, Munk founded Spora, a food innovation centre developing sustainable food solutions. Munk’s commitment to fighting hunger extends beyond the restaurant. On World Food Day, 16 October 2025, he launched the fundraising campaign, Serving Change, bringing chefs and food lovers together to raise money for WFP.

Danish gastronomy supports global action

Munk’s appointment connects Danish culinary excellence with international efforts to fight hunger. Building on his fundraising work, Munk will use his profile and network to engage audiences beyond the Alchemist in supporting the WFP.

WFP provides emergency food assistance and helps communities strengthen their long-term food security. This work contributes to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 2: Zero Hunger, with wider benefits for health, education and poverty reduction.

Denmark has joined the great gastronomic nations of the world over the past two decades. But what are the secrets behind that rapid rise to stardom? Listen to the Food Nation podcast and find out.
