New online publication: 5 Pathways to resilient agrifood systems

Food systems across the world are under increasing pressure. Climate change, biodiversity loss, geopolitical instability, resource constraints and changing market demands are reshaping how food is produced, processed and distributed.

At the same time, agrifood systems must continue to deliver healthy food, economic growth, supply security and long-term resilience.

To inspire international dialogue and collaboration, Food Nation has launched a new online publication: 5 Pathways to resilient food and agriculture systems – Inspiration by Denmark.

The publication presents five pathways with examples of how Denmark works to strengthen resilient agrifood systems – from implementation and resource efficiency to protein diversification, documentation, data and partnerships across the food value chain.

“Food system transformation requires more than ambition. It requires practical solutions that work in practice – and solutions that are environmentally responsible, economically viable and relevant for farmers, companies and consumers. With this publication, we want to share concrete Danish experiences that can inspire dialogue and collaboration across markets and sectors,” says Lise Walbom, CEO of Food Nation.

Five pathways for resilient food and agriculture systems

The publication explores five pathways that reflect different dimensions of the Danish approach:

1. Implementing transition at scale
How Denmark works with policy frameworks, financing mechanisms and incentives to turn ambitions into practical implementation.

2. Productivity within planetary boundaries
How Danish solutions support production of more value with fewer resources by making better use of biomass, nutrients, energy and side streams.

3. Diversifying protein and production systems
How Denmark is strengthening a broader protein landscape through plant-rich foods, legumes, ingredients, biosolutions, fermentation technologies and efficient animal production.

4. Documenting impact through data and technology
How data, documentation, traceability and food technology support transparency, food safety, climate reporting, quality and market access across the food value chain.

5. Scaling change through partnerships
How public-private collaboration is at the center of aligning actors, accelerating innovation, building trust, and moving solutions from strategy to action.

Across the five pathways, the publication highlights concrete initiatives and cases from Denmark. Together, the examples show how policy, innovation, technology and collaboration can support food system transformation in practice.

“No country has all the answers, and there is no one-size-fits-all pathway. But by sharing practical experiences and learning from each other, we can move faster from ambition to implementation,” adds Lise Walbom.
