Danish royal visit strengthens collaboration between Denmark and Japan
Denmark will take an important step towards strengthening collaboration with Japan when His Majesty King Frederik X, accompanied by the Minister of Food, Agriculture, and Fisheries, Mr. Jacob Jensen, leads the Danish delegation to Japan from 23 to 25 April 2025. Building on more than 155 years of diplomatic relations, the visit will serve as a platform for Denmark and Japan to share knowhow on sustainable and secure food systems that meet the needs of a changing global landscape.
Shared ambitions for sustainable and secure food
Denmark and Japan share strong ambitions for sustainable development within food and agriculture. Food safety ranks among the top five priorities for both Japanese and Danish stakeholders, according to a market deep dive conducted by Epinion for Food Nation. The 2024 Insight Report further shows that 97% of Japanese decision-makers consider country of origin important when sourcing food products and solutions — a value deeply embedded in Denmark’s approach to sustainable food systems.
Strengthening ties through shared solutions
Throughout the visit, Danish food, agriculture, and beverage companies will engage in a series of high-level activities aimed at strengthening partnerships with Japanese stakeholders. The programme includes a business conference and networking events in Tokyo, followed by Denmark’s participation at Expo 2025 in Osaka. Here, Denmark will present innovative and sustainable solutions within the Nordic Pavilion, highlighting new opportunities for partnership and knowledge-sharing.
Danish strongholds inspire future collaboration
In Denmark, gastronomy plays an active role in shaping a sustainable food culture by inspiring consumer choices and connecting innovation with tradition. Danish chefs, producers, researchers, and food companies collaborate closely to develop new approaches to taste, nutrition, and responsible sourcing. This unique combination of sustainability and culinary knowledge will be brought to life at the VIP reception in Tokyo, where Danish gastronomy will serve as a platform for culinary diplomacy, promoting sustainable food systems and fostering strong partnerships.
The Danish royal visit is a valuable opportunity to exchange solutions that contribute to more sustainable and secure food production. By combining strengths, Denmark and Japan continue to explore solutions that support food security, drive the green transition, and foster long-term partnerships across the value chain.
