Denmark takes over the EU Presidency in a time of cooperation

As Denmark assumes the EU Presidency in the second half of 2025, key European priorities align with Danish competencies in agricultural innovation, sustainability and food safety.

From July to December 2025, Denmark holds the rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union. While the presidency covers a broad policy landscape, a number of the strategic priorities are highly relevant to the agriculture and food sector – including efforts to advance green innovation, enhance resource efficiency and strengthen resilience in food systems.

Sustainable solutions and smarter food production

One of the key ambitions of the Danish EU Presidency is to drive progress in areas that support a competitive and climate-resilient Europe. This includes fostering the development and adoption of technologies that enhance sustainability across sectors – from energy and infrastructure to food production. Here, Denmark contributes with decades of experience in precision agriculture, efficient resource management and low-emission farming practices.

In the agri-food sector, Denmark’s collaborative model has long supported innovation through public-private partnerships, connecting knowledge institutions, companies and authorities. This approach has led to practical solutions such as green biorefining of protein-rich crops, smart water management in food processing, and digital tools that optimise animal welfare and reduce waste.

Aligning Danish strengths with European ambitions

The Danish food cluster is well positioned to support the EU’s objectives for a greener and more sustainable economy. From scalable technologies that reduce carbon footprints to high food safety standards and transparent value chains, Danish companies and organisations are already delivering on many of the goals set out in the EU agenda.

As international stakeholders seek reliable, future-proof food solutions, Denmark remains committed to sharing its knowledge and strengthening cross-border partnerships that support sustainable development in Europe and beyond.
