Novonesis

Danish biosolutions recognised as a consistent leader in sustainability

Novonesis solidifies Denmark’s recognition in sustainable action and corporate leadership, achieving 49th place on the 2025 Corporate Knights Global 100 list unveiled at the World Economic Forum in Davos.

The agriculture and food sector faces significant challenges in the year ahead as climate change intensifies and geopolitical instability poses substantial obstacles. Government action remains pivotal to achieving the global climate goals outlined in the Paris Agreement. However, a constrained scope of operation may limit governments worldwide, potentially restricting sustainable investments and increasing the need for private-sector intervention.

The global benchmark for sustainable efforts

Each year, Corporate Knights ranks the 100 most sustainable companies globally based on various indicators, including sustainable revenue, sustainable investment, carbon productivity, and energy productivity, among others. The ranking also considers factors like racial and gender diversity in leadership. The 2025 Corporate Knights 100 list was recently unveiled on the occasion of World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. Danish companies were again recognised for their sustainability efforts based on a wide range of parameters, with six innovative companies making it to the list.

Among the listed companies is Novonesis, a Danish biosolutions company that carries a Combined legacy of 10 consecutive years on the list

Two decades of international recognition

Among the listed companies is Novonesis, the Danish biosolutions company that carries a combined legacy of two decades of presence on the list, represented through the rankings of the two companies, Chr. Hansen and Novozymes, that joined forces to form Novonesis.

Now ranking 49th, Novonesis is distinguished by its 81% sustainable revenue and 53% sustainable investment, solidifying its position as a leader in sustainable practices within the agriculture and food sector. Novonesis’ candidacy to the Global 100 list is expected to continue, with the company targeting a 75% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions and a 35% reduction in Scope 3 emissions by 2030 and aiming to achieve net zero by 2050.

Danish excellence in biosolutions

Denmark has established itself as a global hub for biosolutions, driven by companies that build on a strong tradition of innovation. Advanced technologies like fermentation and biorefining are deeply embedded in Denmark’s industrial ecosystem, supported by a collaborative research community that fosters public-private partnerships. This integrated approach not only enhances the competitiveness of Danish companies but also reinforces Denmark’s position as a European center of excellence in biosolutions.
