C40: The power of global collaboration

The City of Copenhagen will host the C40 World Mayors Summit from the 9th-12th October 2019. Copenhagen was selected as the host city, for the landmark climate event, by the 17 mayors that make up the C40 Steering Committee.

The C40 Mayors Summit, takes place every three years, bringing together the mayors and leaders of the 96 member cities of the C40 network from across the globe. The Copenhagen Summit will celebrate and share the most effective climate solutions being delivered in cities worldwide. Mayors, CEOs, philanthropists, investors, scientists and citizens will come together to shift global markets and create the sustainable, prosperous and healthy future for the world’s great cities.

Previous C40 summits have been hosted by London, New York, Seoul, São Paulo, Johannesburg and Mexico City.

Sustainable food systems of the future

C40 consists of five different networks within the areas of: Energy & Buildings, Transportation and Urban Planning, Food, Water & Waste, Adaption Implementation and Air Quality. The Food, Water & Waste network supports C40 cities transition towards regenerative resource management and reduce emissions through more sustainable consumption.

The Danish food cluster is already future bound when it comes to sustainable solutions for a growing global population. Through the steady refinement of production techniques, Danish farmers have learned to make the most of the relatively small area of agricultural land available to them. Today, Denmark has high-efficient food productions with some of the lowest greenhouse gas emissions in Europe. Food producers follow a similar path to continuous optimisation, honing their ability to produce more with less and transform raw materials into high-value products. You can dive into more solutions from the Danish food arena in the White Paper on Sustainability here.

Several side events will take place during C40 World Mayer Summit. Cities and Business forum is one of them and will focus on businesses’ role in responding to the climate challenge at a city level. Here you can meet Danish stakeholders and companies presenting solutions.
