Let’s talk! Steering the green transition in farming and food – Innovative technology as a key driver

Join Food Nation’s first Global Food Talk “Steering the green transformation in farming and food – Innovative technology as a key driver” on May 25, 1.00-2.00 pm CEST with opening speech from Food Nations patron, His Royal Highness, Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark livestreamed from Food Nations Visitor Centre.

In less than ten years, 10 billion people will demand safe, healthy and nutritious food. With scarce resources providing enough food to feed the growing world population is one of the biggest challenges of the 21st century. According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), food production accounts for 24% of the world’s CO2 emissions. The agriculture and food industry, therefore, has to work closely together to find solutions to reach this future – and at the same time reach the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals.

New technology and innovative solutions are some of the motors that can drive the green transition. Today it is possible to find examples of technological ingenuity that reduce water and energy consumption, cut carbon emissions and maximize raw material utilisation. Also, digital technology can be the next frontier for sustainable food production like robots, predictive maintenance for smarts food processes and GPS and drone technology for crop management.

The key question to which we are seeking answers is therefore:
How can innovative technology and solutions contribute to ensuring sustainable agriculture and food production?
