Reducing food loss and waste: policy, innovation and partnerships
Food loss and waste is a global challenge with consequences for food security, resource efficiency and economic resilience.
On 17 September 2026, the Embassy of Denmark in Washington, D.C. and the Danish Agriculture & Food Council will host a food loss and waste event at the Residence of the Danish Ambassador in Washington, D.C. with Food Nation as brandingpartner. The event will bring together U.S. policymakers, international stakeholders and Danish food and agriculture leaders to explore how policy, innovation and partnerships can accelerate measurable reductions in food loss and waste across the value chain.
What is happening
The programme will open with remarks by H.E. Jesper Møller Sørensen, Ambassador of Denmark to the United States, followed by a keynote by Esben Lunde Larsen, Senior Agricultural Specialist at the World Bank.
The panel, moderated by Food Nation, will bring together:

- Benjamin Rugholm, Director of Communication & Public Relations, FOSS
- Niels Peter Nørring, Director, Climate & EU, Danish Agriculture & Food Council
- Chellie Pingree, Member of the U.S. House of Prepresentatives and Co-Chair of the House Food Recovery Caucus
to discuss why food is still lost and wasted, how innovation can create value, and what it takes to scale solutions across food systems.
