Nordic Food Waste Summit 2026

Around 58 million tonnes of food waste are generated in the EU annually, highlighting the need for stronger collaboration and concrete action to reduce food waste across the value chain.

On 8-9 December 2026, Copenhagen will host the second Nordic Food Waste Summit, bringing together policymakers, businesses, public authorities and experts from across Europe and the Nordic region to accelerate progress on food waste reduction.

The summit is co-hosted by the Nordic Council of Ministers, the Danish Ministry of Business and Competitiveness, OneThird, the City of Copenhagen, and the Nordic Food Waste Platform at the Swedish Food Agency.

What is happening
The summit will focus on turning commitments into measurable results through policy, innovation and collaboration. Key topics include consumer behaviour, legislation, food waste prevention, redistribution and donation initiatives.

The programme includes

  • 8 December: Side events across Copenhagen from 13:00-17:00, followed by the official Summit Dinner.
  • 9 December: The main summit at Industriens Hus from 09:00-18:00, featuring discussions with policymakers, industry representatives and international experts.

Denmark and the Danish food cluster
Hosting the summit in Copenhagen provides an opportunity for international stakeholders to exchange experiences with Danish and Nordic actors working to reduce food waste. The summit brings together perspectives from policy, research and industry to explore practical solutions and strengthen partnerships across the food value chain.
