Global food systems are under increasing pressure from climate change, environmental degradation and inequality. Poor diets are among the leading causes of preventable disease and premature death, and millions lack access to safe, affordable, and nutritious food – calling for integrated solutions across agrifood systems that deliver better nutrition for people while reducing environmental impact. 

Rooted in Food Nation’s five pathways to healthy lives within planetary boundaries, this episode brings Danish and international perspectives on tackling non-communicable diseases, improving access to safe and sustainable nutrition, and aligning health and climate strategies to build more resilient food systems.

What to expect:
In this episode, launched in connection with UN’s International Universal Health Coverage Day, Global Food Talk explores how cross-sector collaboration, innovative ideas and shared ambition can drive global health, nutrition security and sustainable diets within planetary boundaries.

You will hear from Dr. Kremlin Wickramasinghe, who joins Lise Walbom, CEO of Food Nation, in a keynote conversation about transforming food systems to achieve better health for more people and the planet. The dialogue dives into WHO’s latest insights on nutrition, the global rise of non-communicable diseases (NCDs), and the policies and partnerships needed to align food production with public health goals.

The second part of the episode features a dialogue between two business representatives, showcasing how innovaive ideas and public–private collaboration can accelerate the shift towards healthy and more sustainable diets.

You can now listen to the Global Food Talk podcast, launched on 1 July 2025 ahead of the United Nations International Day of Cooperatives. This episode explores the urgent question: How can we ensure global food security in a sustainable way through new forms of cooperation?

What to expect

In this episode, Global Food Talk explores how cooperation across sectors and borders can provide solutions to one of our biggest global challenges: ensuring food security in a sustainable way.

You will hear insights from Kaveh Zahedi of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, who shares why the global food system must be addressed as part of a wider climate and biodiversity agenda, and how international cooperation is essential for impact.

The conversation then turns to Denmark, where cooperative business models are helping drive real change. Peter Giortz-Carlsen from DLG Group and Louise Helmer from VikingGenetics share how farmer-owned companies are working with governments, consumers and partners to scale sustainability without compromising productivity.

Drawing on concrete examples, from regenerative farming with Carlsberg to cross-border data sharing for cattle genetics, they show how trust-based collaboration and long-term thinking can create a more secure and resilient food future.
