A EUR 5.9 million investment strengthens Denmark’s capacity to scale biosolutions

A national investment in Denmark’s biosolutions infrastructure expands open-access testing and scale-up capacity, supporting the transition from early-stage research to market-ready products and solutions

Denmark’s role in advancing bio-based innovation is set to strengthen further with a targeted funding allocation from the Danish Business Promotion Board. A total of EUR 5.89 million has been awarded to the Danish Technological Institute and FermHub Zealand to enhance test-, pilot-, and demonstration infrastructure for biosolutions.

The investment supports the expansion of precision fermentation and process development facilities, enabling Danish and international companies to scale bio-based innovations that contribute to more sustainable, resilient and resource-efficient food systems.

A long-term commitment to scaling sustainable solutions
Biosolutions play a growing role in the green transition, offering scalable alternatives that support sustainable food production, circular resource use, and climate resilience. From plant-based proteins to natural plant protection, bio-based processes reduce emissions and environmental impact while increasing the efficiency of raw materials.

Since 2022, Denmark has made biosolutions a national priority, investing in facilities that help companies progress efficiently from research to large-scale productions. The infrastructure expansion includes a publicly accessible 25,000-litre precision fermentation tank at FermHub Zealand – Denmark’s largest demonstration and scale-up facility for biosolutions. Meanwhile, the Danish Technological Institute will expand its laboratory and pilot-scale facilities, supporting fermentation-based innovation across sectors.

These new capabilities provide an inspirational pathway for testing, upscaling and commercialising biosolutions. By expanding access to state-of-the-art testing and scale-up infrastructure, Denmark offers the facilities and collaborative ecosystem that make it easier for international companies to accelerate their development and bring sustainable solutions to market faster.

Long-term commitment to scaling sustainable solutions
The recent allocation underlines Denmark’s long-term commitment to biosolutions as a pathway towards more resource-efficient and sustainable production. Biosolutions contribute to lower-emission value chains, improved use of raw materials and the development of biological alternatives

Rooted in high-quality infrastructure, strong research environments and cross-sector collaboration, the investment reinforces Denmark’s position as a trusted partner in advancing bio-based innovation.
