Denmark hosts Organic Summit 2025 to accelerate organic transition in Europe

Copenhagen becomes the focal point for advancing organic farming and food production, as Denmark convenes Organic Summit 2025 – a landmark event focusing on how organic agriculture can contribute to more sustainable, resilient, and future-oriented food systems

18-19 August 2025, policymakers, researchers, farmers, and business leaders from across the continent will gather in Copenhagen during Denmark’s EU Presidency to explore how organic agriculture and food production can drive the green transition. Organic Summit 2025 (OS25) highlights the growing recognition of organic agriculture and food production as a strategic tool for climate action, biodiversity, and food system transformation.

With the European Union striving to achieve 25% organic farmland by 2030, OS25 offers a platform to transform political ambition into tangible action rooted in knowledge-sharing, cross sector collaboration, and innovation

Denmark’s leadership in organic farming

Denmark’s role as host of OS25 reflects its long-standing commitment to organic development. Since introducing the world’s first national organic law in 1987, Denmark has built a national framework based on collaboration between policymakers, farmers, researchers, and businesses. This approach has helped generate solutions that continue to expand the potential of organic agriculture and food production – both nationally and internationally.

Today, Denmark holds one of the world’s highest market shares for organic food. This achievement reflects decades of investment in regulation, consumer trust and public procurement, resulting in a food system of efficiency, and sustainability.

A collaborative platform for knowledge-sharing and inspiration

OS25 is centered around three core themes: Farming, industry/processing and market development. Each address how organic systems can scale while maintain high standards for environmental performance, economic viability and social value

Over two days, participants will engage in discussions and explore innovative solutions from Denmark and across Europe in:

  • Farming: How can more farmers be supported in transitioning to organic practices while maintaining productivitiy and biodiversity outcomes?
  • Processing/industry: What are the opportunities and challenges for processors in the organic market?
  • Market development: How can we scale organic food systems in retail, public procurement, and the food service sector?

The Summit culminates with the presentation of an Organic Charter – a shared statement of recommendations designed to support the EU’s organic goals. The document will be handed over to the Danish Minister for Food, Agriculture and Fisheries at the closing ceremony, offering a roadmap for future collaboration, alignment, and growth.
