The Danish Crown Prince Couple to visit Japan

Denmark and Japan celebrates 150 years of diplomatic ties this year, and, in October, Their Royal Highnesses of Denmark The Crown Prince and The Crown Princess will lead a business and cultural promotional campaign in the Japan.

55 Danish companies will take part in the business promotional campaign in Tokyo. Last year, Danish companies exported EUR 3 billion of goods and services to Japan, and the focus of the business campaign will be some of the areas in which Denmark has a strong position. The trade promotion activities, seminars and events will primarily take place under the three main heading: Healthcare, Food & Agriculture, Design & furniture.

The focus of the Agriculture & Food sector will primarily be within food quality, beverages, and ingredients. There is a growing interest in Japan for new food related trends, with a higher demand for higher quality products.

Steady and high export of Danish food & agriculture
Japan is one of the world’s largest food importers due to a self-sufficiency rate of only 39 pct.. The annual food import is worth approximately EUR 57 billion. From 2011-2015 the overall food import increased by 18 pct.. In 2016, the Danish export of goods to Japan amounted to EUR 2 billion. This is a growth rate of almost 17 pct. compared to 2015. The food cluster is one of the largest export sectors. Within this group, there was a significant export increase of approximately 15 pct. in meat and dairy products in 2016.

Japan demands high food safety and quality
The Japanese consumers are known for their demand for high food safety and quality products. Japanese companies are actively looking for business cooperation with domestic and foreign companies that are leading in efficiency, sustainability and innovation.

During the Japan visit, The Danish Crown Prince Couple will be accompanied by the minister of foreign affairs Anders Samuelsen, the minister of environment and food Esben Lunde Larsen, the minister of health Ellen Trane Nørby and the minister of culture Mette Bock.

Food Nation will be present to represent the Danish food cluster.
